Sri Lanka's coastline wraps around the entire island, offering honeymoon couples a remarkable range of beach experiences — from lively surf towns and whale-watching harbours to secluded stretches of golden sand where you might be the only people for miles. The best part is how quickly you can move between coast and interior, combining beach days with the hill country or cultural sites just a few hours inland.
The south coast town of Mirissa has become one of Sri Lanka's most popular honeymoon beaches, with a curving bay of soft sand, excellent seafood restaurants and some of the best whale watching in Asia between November and April. It's relaxed without being sleepy, and the sunsets from Parrot Rock are genuinely spectacular.
Just along the coast, Tangalle offers something quieter — long, empty beaches backed by coconut palms, with boutique hotels tucked into the dunes. This is where couples come to properly switch off. Further west, Bentota sits on a wide river estuary and pairs its sandy beach with water sports, river safaris and a handful of luxurious resorts that have drawn honeymooners for decades.
For couples who want beach time close to culture, Unawatuna is just minutes from the colonial fort town of Galle. Its sheltered bay is ideal for swimming and snorkelling, the restaurants and bars have a relaxed boutique atmosphere, and you can walk the Galle Fort ramparts at sunset before dinner.
