Your private driver meets you at Bandaranaike Airport for the three-and-a-half-hour drive to Kandy through rubber plantations and hill country. Check into Kandy House, a restored colonial manor with a garden courtyard, in time for an evening walk around Kandy Lake.
Morning visit to the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, followed by a stroll through the Royal Botanical Gardens at Peradeniya with its giant Javan fig trees and orchid house. Evening Kandyan dance performance at the Cultural Centre, then dinner at The Empire Cafe overlooking the lake.
Drive south along the coast road, stopping at the Handunugoda Tea Estate near Ahangama for a tasting of virgin white tea. Arrive at Fort Bazaar, a beautifully converted merchant's house inside Galle Fort, by mid-afternoon. Evening at leisure exploring the fort's narrow streets.
Morning guided walking tour of the fort, taking in the lighthouse, the Dutch Reformed Church and the rampart walls. Afternoon free to browse boutique shops like Stick No Bills and Barefoot Gallery. Sunset drinks on the ramparts, followed by dinner at A Minute by Tuk Tuk.
Short 40-minute drive to Mirissa along the coastal road. Check into Cape Weligama, perched on a clifftop with infinity pool views over the Indian Ocean. Afternoon on the beach or by the pool. Seafood dinner at Dewmini Roti Shop in Mirissa town.
Early morning boat trip from Mirissa harbour for blue whale and dolphin watching (seasonal, November to April). Return by late morning for a lazy afternoon on Mirissa Beach or a couples' spa treatment at the hotel. Farewell dinner at the Cape's cliffside restaurant.
Final morning on the south coast. Your driver takes you to Colombo Airport via the Southern Expressway, around two and a half hours. Or extend your trip with extra beach days in Tangalle or a short hop to the Maldives.
