Sri Lanka's hill country is built for slow romance. This 7-day itinerary follows the mountain railway from Kandy's lakeside temples through the tea estates of Nuwara Eliya to the misty ridges above Ella, with cool air, green valleys and some of Asia's finest boutique hotels waiting at each stop.
Two of the world's most scenic train journeys connect your three destinations, so the travel itself becomes a highlight. Between rides, you'll visit sacred temples, walk through working tea plantations and stand at the edge of World's End at Horton Plains, all with a private driver handling the logistics.

Your private driver meets you at Bandaranaike Airport in Colombo for the four-hour drive into the hill country. Settle into Kandy House, a restored colonial manor surrounded by paddy fields, with the evening free to walk around Kandy Lake at dusk.
Morning visit to the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic for the puja ceremony. Afternoon at the Royal Botanical Gardens in Peradeniya, home to 4,000 plant species and giant Java fig trees. Evening Kandyan dance performance followed by dinner overlooking the lake.
Board the morning train from Kandy to Nanu Oya, a four-hour climb through tea estates, mountain tunnels and misty valleys. Your driver meets you at Nanu Oya station for the short transfer to Heritance Tea Factory, a converted 19th-century tea factory perched above the plantations.
Pre-dawn drive to Horton Plains National Park for the 9km walk to World's End and Baker's Falls before the clouds roll in. Afternoon exploring Nuwara Eliya's colonial-era town, its post office, golf course and Victoria Park. Tea tasting at a local estate.
The second scenic train from Nanu Oya to Ella passes through the most dramatic stretch of the line. Three hours of bridges, tea fields and mountain views. Arrive at 98 Acres Resort, set on a hillside with panoramic views across Ella Gap.
Sunrise walk to Nine Arches Bridge, a colonial-era stone viaduct framed by tea bushes. Then hike Little Adam's Peak for 360-degree views of the surrounding hills. Afternoon at leisure in Ella's cafes and restaurants, or visit Ravana Falls nearby.
Final morning in the hill country. Your driver takes you to Ella or Mattala Airport, or continue to the south coast beaches. We can arrange extensions to Yala, Galle or the Maldives if you want to add beach time to your trip.
